Theory Of Writing

          My Theory of Writing has changed into something simple yet effective. I believe that every writer I have should have an introduction that contains a hook to grab the reader’s attention, a background of what I would be writing about, and a thesis/argument I am trying to persuade people with. Has to have one to three or more body paragraph that contains a topic sentence to show the readers what ill be writing about, two contexts that would lead to my two examples, an two analysis convincing people why that example makes sense and a link to close off said paragraph. I believe that to be my theory of writing and that it is an effective and simple way of doing any type of writing.

 

          My theory of writing at the beginning of class was similar to the one now. At the beginning of class, I used to write using a format called TREE. I used tree because it was pretty easy and I used it throughout my middle school and a bit in my high school experience. The T stands for the topic sentence, to tell the reader what I believe in. The R stands for reasons, 3 or more, which are supposed to help my topic sentence by showing the readers why I believe it and question myself will the readers believe it. The E stands for explaining reasons, which is where I explain each reason and elaborate more on each to show how the reasons help my topic sentences. The other E stands for ending which is just about wrapping up the whole paragraph. The format I have now is more effective because instead of doing, Introduction, Topic sentence, Reasons, Explain, Ending, then a conclusion. I now use Introduction, Topic Sentence, Context #1, Example #1, Analysis #1, Context #2, Example #2, Analysis #2, Link, then repeat for the next two to three paragraphs, and then a conclusion. That is more effective because its much neater and more compact so I can give even more examples and paragraphs to help my thesis and makes it easier to write a more detailed analysis for each of my examples. That is what’s different from my past theory of writing to the present theory of writing.

 

          In class, my theory of writing has evolved little by little from each writing assignment given to me. One of the many essays that my evolved was the “Two Genre”, that essay evolved because I used to always make very long sentences that just lead on and on, but I’ve learned how to use “,” in my sentence. But I’ve learned to not use it as much and use “.” more frequently when needed. Another essay is the “Art Literacy Narrative Essay” which was a big one for me because I could never right three paged essays, it was always so difficult writing for that long because I would run out of things to say, talk about, or run out of ways to persuade others. But with that essay, I almost got it to four pages and that was early on when I was struggling to even get three pages, which showed that I had grown in my writing. Another essay that really contributed to the change was the “Analytical Essay” because that’s where my theory of writing showed off. I did every single step, Topic sentence, Context, etc, that essay was one of the best ones I wrote so far in class. Also, that essay is where I worked on my MLA format because it was new to me, and that helped a lot in one of my outside classes. The outside class that my “Analytical Essay” and theory of writing helped me in was my PHIL 10200 – Final Paper because I got better at making my essays into MLA format, most importantly because of my theory of writing, I was able to make my final paper eight pages long! That was a huge achievement for me because it was one of the longest essays I’ve ever written, I would have never finished it without my theory of writing. That is how my past theory of writing evolved into a more efficient and effective way because of the writing assignment that was given to me.

 

          My theory of writing helped influence my work and how I learned this semester and in my future writings. It helped me because without it I would have never finished or done my essays correctly. It helped me organize my essays and make it easier for the reader to read what I’m trying to argue about. Just like in PHIL 10200 – Final Paper, it was all about arguing over something and my theory of writing showed in it. My theory of writing will absolutely help my future essays, because I’ve learned how used and fit an MLA format type of essay, with my theory of writing which again showed in my PHIL 10200 – Final Paper. This is how my theory of writing influence the way I worked and learned this semester and in my future.
